Biography
Schoony (British, b.1974) is a special effects, prosthetics, and urban artist known for his work on major Hollywood films. Born in north London, Schoony began working on films at the age of 15. His credits as a special effects, make-up, and prosthetics artist include Where the Wild Things AreHarry Potter, and Gladiator. While working in prosthetics, Schoony became well versed in creating life-size cast sculpture, which he translated into a career as a successful visual artist. Among his most recognizable pieces is Boy Soldier, which appeared in the movies KICKASS 2 and Little Favour. The fiberglass sculpture features a child in a combat helmet holding a hand grenade, emerging from a wooden panel. In 2008, he was featured in the seminal street art exhibition One Foot in the Grove at Mutate Britain. His work is particularly popular among celebrity collectors, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Blur front man, Damon Albarn.
